Swim towards the sewage!
RIP
Russell The Big Brained Goldfish

he was really great. He was sent to the toilet Valhalla and given a naked funeral at 3am this morning. Cause of death unknown, but I suspect the cat had something to do with it.
we'll miss you.

I'm no fish scientist, but I think the problem may have been how you changed the water in Russel's bowl. You can't change 100% of the water. You have to change 2/3 of it and leave a third of the nasty water in there. ALso, you should submerge him in a baggie filled with his old water in the bowl of new water for ten or fifteen minutes so the temperature can adjust. Cleaning the bowl is important, but it's a shock to the little fishy's system too. You can also buy a bottle of some clear drops to add to the bowl at a pet store. I think the bottle costs a couple of bucks and it'll last years. It replaces the fish's protective slime coating.
I learned these lessons the hard way too. RIP Moby Dick and Emerson.
thank you stu. i've actually had fishies all my life, and did exactly what you said. but fish without pumps just don't last as long. fact. i guess i wouldn't want to live in a bowl either.
Was it a gold fish? Those things are not made for bowls. They have a natural toxin that pollutes a bowl real fast.
I've haven't had a fish for several years, but I did have a beta in bowl for over three years.
sometimes TLC ain't enough when you have a wicked gato prowling the pad.
